Akribos XXIV AK406RG Reviews

rated 3 out of 5 Beautiful watch but...
by Justin Invergo , 2010-07-06

I was really excited to receive this watch after looking at the pictures and reading reviews. The pictures honestly just don't do it justice - this really is a beautiful watch, and fascinating to observe as the mechanics work.

As I've now found in other reviews (particularly in the other Davinci designs), this watch seems to have some serious mechanical issues. When wound up and left flat (overnight for example), the watch keeps very accurate time. While being worn, it seems to have a tendency to stop when in positions other than parallel to the ground, and restart with jostling or even just another change in position. When I sit with my arm on an armrest or on my desk typing, the watch works fine. While I'm walking, driving, etc. where my arm might be at my side, or moving about, etc. it loses time - stopping and restarting repeatedly. I've had the watch for only a few days now, and have been continually resetting it as I notice it losing time. Today I decided first thing in the morning when I got up that I'd fully wind it, set it to current time, and then leave it alone for the day. As of right now, about 7 hours later, it is just under 2 hours slow. That's a lot of time lost, fast!

I like the watch too much to want to return it, and so will likely handle it through the warranty. Disappointing, really. Probably my last Akribos XXIV.

rated 5 out of 5 Super Beautiful Watch
by R. Johnson from USA, 2010-05-14

I just got this in the mail. First of all, it comes in a huge, fancy, black faux leather case. This is the most beautiful watch I've ever seen by far. It's simply gorgeous. The photos really do not do it justice. You cannot appreciate the exquisite beauty of this watch until you have it in front of you. It's like a marvelous piece of jewelry made by a wizard. It's like a precious magical antique from a fantasy world. I love the rose-gold color. It looks similar to copper. The wrist band is beautiful, but it was rather stiff and a little difficult to put on. But it's OK. I love that this watch has no markings. It doesn't even have any words on the glass. I've seen a lot of skeleton watches using this same movement, but I think this is the best one of them all. This is my first watch without any hour markings on the dial. The time is easier to tell than I thought it would be. The lack of printed words and markings enhances the beauty of the watch. I think this watch looks even more expensive than it is. It really looks fine. I've read a few people disparage the movement for being made in China, but really it looks like it could've been crafted in a fine old European watch shop.

rated 5 out of 5 Better than expected
by Robert G from Romeoville, illinois USA, 2010-01-27

The pictures didnt do the watch justice. Its better than described or seen. It very elegant and sophisticated. It takes time getting used to having to wind it but thats to be expected. It will run all day on a wind and then some. I tend to wind it in the morning and at night so i dont forget. It feels nice and always draws attention just to see the workings of a watch. The price was value and I recomend the watch to anyone wanting a skeleton watch.
